AT&T getting Windows-based tablets for the holidays
Carrier confirms availability of Windows 8-based Asus quad-core VivoTab RT over LTE and Samsung ATIV Smart PC
Computerworld - AT&T will exclusively carry two Windows tablets for the holidays -- the Asus VivoTab RT and Samsung ATIV Smart PC, the carrier said Thursday.
Pricing was not disclosed, however.
The Asus machine is the first quad-core tablet that will run over LTE. It features a 10.1-in display, 32 GB of storage and the Nvidia quad-core Tegra 3 TE processor.
The VivoTab RT comes with Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 RT Preview Edition.
Windows RT tablets are based on ARM processors, while the Windows 8 tablets, including the ATIV Smart PC, run X86 processors.
Analysts have speculated that the Windows 8 machines will cost $700 to $900.
Acer today announced that its Windows 8-based Iconia W700 an 11.6-in. display will be priced from $799.
The Samsung ATIV Smart PC is an 11.6-in. tablet running Windows 8.
First shown at IFA in Germany in late August, the Samsung tablet is one in a number of ATIV mobile devices.
This Samsung tablet features a detachable keyboard and docking system to make the device either a tablet PC or clamshell laptop PC.
The Samsung ATIV Smart PC runs an Intel Clover Trail 1.5 GHz dual core processor and has 64 GB of internal storage.
It is preloaded with a trial version of Microsoft Offide 2013, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
