HP unveils consumer PCs and display ahead of CES
The HP Notebook Docking Monitor connects to laptops using USB
IDG News Service - Hewlett-Packard on Wednesday launched the company's first 27-inch all-in-one PC, its most powerful HP Pavilion PC to date, and a monitor that connects to and charges some of its laptops using USB.
In addition to a 27-inch screen, which tilts up to 25 degrees, the HP Omni27 All-in-one PC has up to 2TB of storage. The desktop PC is powered by "multicore processors" and users can also choose to add a Blu-ray disc drive or a TV tuner, according to HP.
For consumers who want a little more oomph, HP will also start shipping the liquid-cooled Pavilion HPE h9 Phoenix PC in the U.S. The HPE Phoenix includes four modules for up to 16GB of DD3 memory, and three internal hard drive bays, as well. The top of the chassis is slightly curved, and can be used as a tray for smartphones, digital cameras and MP3 players. A USB port that points backward toward the tray should make it easier to charge and connect the devices, according to HP.
For consumers who have moved on from desktops and prefer laptops, but still want a separate display, HP has added the L2311c 23-inch Notebook Docking Monitor to its portfolio. The monitor and the laptop connect via a USB cable, which can also be used to power and charge the laptop using HP's Smart AC Technology. The latter only works with some of HP's own laptops. The monitor has a 1920-by-1080 resolution and an integrated 720p webcam.
The Omni27 PC and the Pavilion HPE Phoenix h9 are both expected to start shipping Jan. 8 in the U.S. and priced from $1,200 and $1,150, respectively.
The L2311c Notebook Docking Monitor will start shipping in February and is priced starting at $319, according to HP.
Many vendors launch products ahead of large trade shows like the Consumer Electronics Show, in order to avoid having them drown in the huge numbers of product announcements that take place during big events. But HP has more announcements on the way, and is expected to introduce an ultrabook, called Spectre, in Las Vegas.
