Droid Razr ships on 11-11-11 at 11:11 a.m.
Razr to run over Verizon's LTE 4G network
Computerworld - Verizon Wireless will launch the new Droid Razr for $299.99 in its stores Friday, marking the event with a later-than-usual opening time at 11:11 a.m. on Friday's date of 11-11-11.
The date was chosen partly to commemorate the original Droid's birth two years ago in November 2009, Verizon said in a statement. Friday's launch at the 11:11 opening time has been promoted in slick new national TV ads for the Droid Razr that began airing this week.
A two-year agreement is required, including a nationwide talk plan starting at $40 a month, plus a smartphone data package starting at $30 a month.
Verizon also said it will offer NFL Mobile on the device for no added cost for the remainder of the NFL season.
Motorola, maker of the Razr, compares the device to the iPhone 4S, citing its bigger 4.3-in. display, slightly lower weight and ability to connect over Verizon's 4G LTE network.
The Droid Razr is also compared to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which will be sold exclusively by Verizon in the U.S. this fall. The Galaxy Nexus will run Android 4.0, also called Ice Cream Sandwich, while the Droid Razr runs Android 2.3.5.
