Interactive: See the zero-fatality car of the future
In the next 10 to 20 years, a confluence of advanced safety technologies will lead to cars that not only protect you in a crash, but anticipate and prevent crashes altogether. Some automakers and industry experts predict that we'll eventually have zero fatalities in new cars.
Roll over the red targets on the image below to see the safety features that such a car is likely to include. (Locations are approximate; car makers may place these systems somewhat differently.) Most of these features are available in today's high-end cars and will become more widespread as time goes on; one is not yet available but will likely appear in future vehicles.
(For details about these technologies and the infrastructure that will support them, see Car tech: Building the zero-fatality car.)
