AT&T to carry Palm Pre Plus, Pixi Plus

Says it will be only U.S. carrier to offer phones with all the major OSes

Computerworld - AT&T said it will add the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus to its lineup of smartphones, claiming that it is the only U.S. carrier to offer smartphone devices on all the major operating systems.

AT&T also said it will soon unveil the Dell Aero, an Android-based smartphone that the carrier first announced in January. It will be Dell's first smartphone available in the U.S.

The Pre Plus will sell for $150 and the Pixi Plus for $50, both with a two-year contract and mail-in rebate, AT&T said.

The Pre Plus comes with 16GB of storage, compared with theoriginal Palm Pre, which has a fixed 8GB. The Pixi Plus will offer Wi-Fi.

AT&T's announcement of support for the Palm phones comes in advance of this week's CTIA Wireless conference in Las Vegas. AT&T is the nation's second-largest wireless carrier, behind market leader Verizon Wireless.

AT&T didn't say when the Palm devices will be on sale.

Palm's WebOS devices went on sale recently at Verizon Wireless. Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein last week said that if the Palm had gone on sale before the Motorola Droid, the Palm devices would have sold better than the Droid. Sales of the Palm Pre and Pixi have been below expectations.
