Facebook users can play Xbox games with their social networking buddies
Computerworld - Facebook is linking up with Xbox Live so users can play Xbox games with their social networking friends.
With the new feature, dubbed Facebook for Xbox, users will be able to link their Facebook profile to their Xbox Gamertag to find Facebook friends and connect with them on Xbox Live, according to Gareth Davis, Facebook's program manager for games, in a blog post this afternoon. Users also will be able to do more normal social networking activities like update their status, browse updates and view photos, on their televisions now.
"Games are more fun when played with friends, which is why they are among the most popular activities on Facebook," wrote Davis. "We're excited that beginning today the social game experience is coming to Xbox Live, so now you can play Xbox games with your Facebook friends... It's never been easier to discover friends you never even knew played Xbox."
Davis noted that Facebook was cognizant of privacy issues when setting up the deal with Xbox. He noted that Xbox is set to recognize the privacy settings that Facebook users already have set up on their social networking site. Users will be able to control who sees their activity.
"As social gaming continues to grow, we look forward to people playing games with their friends on consoles, mobile phones, the Web and their desktops," wrote Davis.
