Rally Software links Oracle Java tool to agile ALM

August 28, 2009 04:09 PM ET

InfoWorld - Rally Software Development, which offers a hosted service and on-site software for application life-cycle management for agile programming teams, is connecting its platform to Oracle's JDeveloper IDE for Java development.

Unveiled this week at the Agile2009 conference in Chicago, the Rally Connector for JDeveloper lets users of the Oracle tool view and update Rally tasks and defects from within the IDE, Rally said. Prior to the development of the connector, developers would have to use Rally's platform and JDeveloper separately, said Dan Forman, Rally director of partners and alliances. "This provides visibility across the entirety of the development lifecycle," Forman said.

"We're seeing more and more large enterprises use JDeveloper and Rally together," he said.

API calls are used to connect the JDeveloper client to Rally's server. The connector leverages Oracle Team Productivity Center, which serves as a server-side gateway to third-party ALM solutions, Forman said. Team Productivity Center provides unified access to ALM tools through JDeveloper, according to Oracle.

Rally's connector is available at Rally's Web site and through Oracle, Forman said. Rally offers similar connectivity to the Eclipse and Microsoft Visual Studio IDEs, he said.
