Top EMC storage exec jumps ship for HP

Donatelli will head up HP's server, storage and ProCurve networking businesses

April 29, 2009 12:00 PM ET

Computerworld - Top EMC storage executive David Donatelli has abruptly left the company to join rival Hewlett-Packard Co. as executive vice president for enterprise servers, storage and networking, HP announced yesterday.

Donatelli, who was president of EMC's storage division, will take over his new position at HP effective May 5, and will report to Ann Livermore, executive vice president of the technology solutions group at HP.

In his new duties, Donatelli will be in charge of HP's Business Critical Systems, Industry Standard Servers, StorageWorks, ESS Infrastructure Software and Blades products, HP said. He will also be taking over the HP ProCurve Networking business. Marius Haas, senior vice president and worldwide general manager of HP ProCurve, will report to Donatelli.

Donatelli replaces Scott Stallard, who is retiring after 34 years at HP.

EMC said this morning that Executive Vice President Frank Hauck, 49, an 18-year EMC veteran, has been named interim leader of the company's storage division.

Hauck is also the firm's Executive Vice President of Global Marketing and Customer Quality and previously headed EMC's worldwide sales and services operations.

"EMC has built one of the deepest, most accomplished executive management teams in the IT industry," said EMC CEO Joe Tucci in a statement. "We're extremely fortunate to have a seasoned leader with Frank's credentials, industry track record and company-wide respect to lead EMC's storage business."
