EnterpriseDB snags Red Hat sales VP as CEO
Boyajian helped establish partnerships between Red Hat and hardware vendors
June 4, 2008 12:00 PM ETComputerworld - Open-source database vendor EnterpriseDB Corp. today said it has appointed a senior sales executive from Linux vendor Red Hat Inc. as its new CEO.
Ed Boyajian will become president, CEO and a member of the board for Edison, N.J.-based EnterpriseDB, replacing co-founder Andy Astor, who will become executive vice president of business development.
Boyajian was vice president and general manager of North American sales at Red Hat, which recorded $523 million in revenue in its fiscal year 2008 ending in February.
During his six years there, Boyajian helped establish strategic partnerships between Red Hat and hardware vendors, including IBM, Hewlett-Packard Co. and Dell Inc., while growing its channel business, according to a press release.
EnterpriseDB is a four-year-old, venture capital-funded start-up with 225 mostly enterprise customers.
Its products are purportedly compatible with, and cheaper than, Oracle Corp.'s database. They are based on the open-source PostgreSQL database, a rival to the more popular MySQL owned by Sun Microsystems Inc.
