RSS Goes Mobile
NewsGator adds mobile RSS reader for BlackBerry and other Java-enabled devices
NewsGator Technologies Inc. http://www.newsgator.com/home.aspx continued its move into the world of mobile devices with the unveiling yesterday of a new RSS reader for BlackBerry and other Java-enabled mobile devices.
The new NewsGator Go reader will let users access news and other content from RSS-enabled sources through mobile devices, the company said. The company had unveiled NewsGator Go for Windows Mobile systems last September.
The new feed reader for BlackBerry and Java devices formats articles and links to accommodate limited bandwidth and screen size. In addition, NewsGator Go subscriptions and content will be synchronized across all NewsGator's products, including FeedDemon, NetNewsWire, NewsGator Online and NewsGator Inbox. Articles marked as "read" on a mobile device will show up as read in other NewsGator applications.
Having a mobile RSS reader for the BlackBerry that synchronizes with desktop and Web-based readers helps save time for users, said user David Cohen, executive director of Colorado TechStars LLC, which provides funding and mentoring for start-ups. Other mobile readers required Cohen to manage subscriptions separately and displayed articles he had already read on his desktop, he added.
The new mobile reader also synchronizes with NewsGator Enterprise On-Demand so mobile workers can read news and business content that is synchronized with corporate information projects, the company said.
NewsGator Go costs $29.95 or $14.95 if bought with any of NewsGator's desktop readers, including FeedDemon, NetNewsWire and Inbox.
