Brief: Corel updates WordPerfect Office for Vista

The update, dubbed Service Pack 2, is available for both 32- and 64-bit Vista

March 9, 2007 12:00 PM ET

Computerworld - Corel Corp. yesterday unveiled a free service pack to WordPerfect Office X3 to update the business suite so it's compatible with Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system.

The update, dubbed Service Pack 2 (SP2), is available in versions for both 32- and 64-bit Vista, the Canadian company said. Localized versions of SP2 will be released later this spring.

Corel officials touted the service pack as delivering "optimal feature performance and the enhanced look and feel [of Vista]" and as the only Vista-certified alternative to Microsoft's own Office 2007. "PC users and manufacturers expect their software to work seamlessly when they move to a new operating system," said Richard Carriere, the general manager of Corel's office productivity group.

WordPerfect Office X3 comes in several configurations, which include a mix of the WordPerfect word processor, Quattro Pro spreadsheet, Corel Presentations presentation maker, the WordPerfect Mail e-mail client and Paradox database. Prices range from $99.99 to $349.99.

SP2 can be downloaded from the Corel site. The company also offers 30-day trial versions of the suite.
