Apple delays Apple TV launch to mid-March

The $299 device can store about 50 hours of video

February 27, 2007 12:00 PM ET

Computerworld - Apple Inc. confirmed today that its new Apple TV entertainment appliance won't go on sale until mid-March, a several-week delay that it declined to explain in detail.

"Wrapping up Apple TV is taking a few weeks longer than we projected, and we now expect to begin shipments mid-March," Apple spokeswoman Teresa Brewer said today.

Unveiled in September 2006, the $299 video- and audio-streaming wireless hardware was expected to ship this month, based on promises from CEO Steve Jobs at last month's MacWorld show in San Francisco. The device will sport a 40GB hard drive that's able to store about 50 hours of video or 9,000 audio tracks and will sync to and stream from both PCs and Macs.

The box will be sold via Apple's online store and through its retail outlets. It's priced at $299.
