Computerworld.com, print publication take top ASBPE honors
Web site gets gold in online category; publication named Magazine of the Year
July 21, 2006 12:00 PM ETComputerworld - CHICAGO -- In testimony to the integrated nature of its print and online editorial operations, Computerworld.com last night received the gold award in the "Overall Web Publication" category, and the Computerworld print publication was named 2006 Magazine of the Year by the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE).
Martha Connors, vice president/general manager of online for Computerworld inc. and CXO Inc., noted that the Web site has in the last year "dramatically increased its focus on daily news -- doubling the amount of stories every day, covering and following stories from breaking news to analysis and opinion. This significant effort has really paid off."
At a national awards banquet held here in conjunction with the ASBPE's annual conference, Computerworld received the top print honor in the over-80,000 circulation division, while in the under-80,000 circulation category the honor went to Computerworld's sister publication CSO. This marks the second time in three years the top award was swept by parent company International Data Group. Computerworld and CSO also won the awards in 2004.
"This is a huge honor, especially when you consider the outstanding quality of the 10 publications that were finalists," said Don Tennant, Computerworld's editor in chief. "It says a ton about the talent and professionalism of the people whose hard work made this happen. They have a lot of fun, but when it comes to ensuring our online and print readers get what they rely on us for, the editorial team is deadly serious. I'm just really glad they've received this recognition."
In addition to the Magazine of the Year and gold Overall Web Publication honors, Computerworld received eight national awards for editorial content, including three gold awards; and three awards for print design, including one gold.
"Computerworld's strong showing at the ASBPE awards again this year is a testimony to the teamwork involved in living up to our 'Voice of IT Management' moniker," said Matthew Sweeney, Computerworld Inc.'s president, publisher and CEO. "The quality and usefulness of our content -- in print, online and at our events -- are at the core of everything we do."
Founded in 1964 and based in Wheaton, Ill., the ASBPE is a professional association of writers and editors employed in the business and trade press.
