Protecting a company from e-waste liability issues requires careful screening and auditing of vendors that recycle or otherwise dispose of obsolete IT equipment. What should you ask? This list of questions, used by a Fortune 500 company, serves as a good starting point (download PDF).

Sample equipment disposal agreement

This document is an example of how the Fortune 500 company presented its IT equipment disposal requirements to its vendor in contract form. The contract language specifies disposal practices and how data is to be erased from discarded PCs, requires a documented audit trail and gives the customer the right to inspect the vendor's operations for compliance (download PDF).
