NetScout touts nGenius software upgrade
It lets network managers track apps running over Citrix software
Computerworld - NetScout Systems Inc. today announced an upgrade of its nGenius Performance Management System tools that let network managers track the response times of applications running over networks using Citrix Systems Inc.'s MetaFrame software.
Response times can be measured for each type of application served up by the Citrix software, said Eileen Haggerty, a senior product manager at NetScout, in Westford, Mass. NGenius, which can be set to provide IT managers with alarms when traffic peaks, can distinguish between network, server and application performance problems, Haggerty said.
"Network managers have been flying blind when looking at the impact of Citrix in their networks," said Gartner Inc. analyst Debra Curtis.
However, Curtis and RedMonk LLC analyst James Governor each noted that several other vendors are also targeting performance management for Citrix applications.
Governor said NetScout competes with at least two other companies for Citrix-served application analysis, including AppSense in Daresbury, England, and Network Associates Inc. in Santa Clara, Calif. "Citrix is a big market itself, with tens of thousands of organizations using it," he said, describing the size of the potential market for nGenius and other products.
Curtis said NetQoS Inc. in Austin also competes with nGenius.
The new release is free to existing nGenius users and starts at $50,000 for new customers.
