IBM adds DB2 Content Manager to Express track
IDG News Service -
IBM has added a version of its content management software to its Express line of midmarket products, offering smaller organizations and departments a tool for managing digital content such as documents and image files.
DB2 Content Manager Express, announced in February at IBM's PartnerWorld conference, is available worldwide with a price tag of $9,375 per server and $1,063 per concurrent user. The stand-alone software handles content storage and offers version and permission controls, as well as search, organization and workflow management features. DB2 Content Manager Express is currently available only for Windows servers, but versions supporting Linux and other operating systems are in the works.
Unlike IBM's standard DB2 Content Manager, the Express version doesn't support hierarchical storage management and advanced workflows, according to an IBM spokeswoman. It also doesn't allow files to be stored in repositories other than its own database, such as external hard drives.
Because of its reduced complexity, DB2 Content Manager Express is easier to set up than its full-featured sibling, according to IBM. Like several other Express products, the software offers single-click installation, the company said.
IBM also announced this week the availability of a Linux version of DB2 Content Manager, which was already available for Windows and Unix. IBM DB2 Content Manager for Linux is priced at $29,000 per server and $2,500 per concurrent user and is available for RedHat, SuSE and United Linux.
Elsewhere in its Express portfolio, IBM added another pricing option for its DB2 Express database, released in June. Companies can now buy the software for use by an unlimited number of users for $3,899. The software's standard price of $499 per base server and $99 per user remains unchanged.
