HP disaster recovery services head jumps to IBM
IDG News Service -
Months after taking over the position, Hewlett-Packard Co.'s director of business continuity for the Americas has resigned for a similar role at IBM.
John Jackson, formerly the head of Comdisco Inc.'s disaster recovery business, joins IBM as vice president of IBM Global Services' business continuity and recovery services group. He succeeds and will report to Don DeMarco, now vice president of IBM Integrated Technology Services, Americas. Jackson, based in Chicago, will oversee strategy, business development, marketing and delivery for his group.
Jackson has spent more than two decades working in business continuity. He led Comdisco's recovery unit as it fielded a record number of disaster declarations from clients following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the U.S.
Bankrupt Comdisco sold that unit soon after to SunGard Data Systems Inc., which beat HP in a bidding war (see story). The acquisition gave SunGard a significant customer base in the U.S., where IBM is its only major competitor, according to Stamford, Conn.-based research firm Gartner Inc.
