Oracle, Yahoo team to offer portal content
The content comes from more than 2,000 news and trade sources
July 15, 2003 12:00 PM ETIDG News Service -
Oracle Corp. and Yahoo Inc. are teaming up to offer companies more news and trade information for their corporate portals, intranets and extranets, saying that it's more cost-efficient for companies to provide relevant business information in a centralized place.
Under a deal announced today, users of Oracle's 9i Application Server will be able to access more than 100 of Yahoo's news applications, dubbed "portlets," from their company portals. The portlets, which come as part of Yahoo's Enterprise Edition suite, feature content from more than 2,000 news and trade sources.
In addition, Yahoo said today that it will expand its enterprise content from more than 5,500 specialty sites through an agreement with Moreover Technologies Inc., a San Francisco-based information management provider.
Oracle 9i Application Server users can now select content such as industry news, stock quotes, maps and weather for their personal portal pages, Yahoo said. The content resides on Yahoo's servers, so companies don't have to host it. The portal technology also allows users to access their personalized My Yahoo preferences in the corporate portals via linked accounts.
Many companies already pay for subscription online news, searches and services, and these costs can be reduced by centralizing the information in corporate portals, the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Internet company said.
Oracle 9i Application Server users can obtain the content provider for My Yahoo Enterprise Edition for free via download from the Oracle9iAS Portal Center on the Oracle Technology Network. Yahoo said it's offering a free trial subscription to My Yahoo Enterprise Edition content for Oracle 9i Application Server users.
