WebPutty upgrades app dev platform
InfoWorld - WebPutty Inc. on Monday will announce WebPutty Application Platform V6, which focuses on visualization for design-driven development.
Slated to ship this week, the product is intended to give developers and integrators a platform for distributed applications, including Web-based software, corporate applications, n-tier applications, and Web services, said Terry Hanold, executive vice president for market development at WebPutty in San Jose, Calif.
"Our platform is focused on handling those complexities and making it much easier for IT staff to maintain those applications and for developers to build those applications," Hanold said.
"[The product] gives a model of the application from end to end, from the database, to the middle-tier objects and Web services all the way to the UI, and it shows dependencies between all those pieces -- that's never been done before," Hanold said.
Highlights of Version 6 include the following:
- Visualization, including dynamic modeling that gives developers a modeling environment tightly coupled to the running application. Changes in the model are automatically reflected in the application and vice versa.
- An application dashboard provides status of elements and dependencies of an application across tiers.
- Design templates provide wizard-driven functionality.
- Browser-based access makes it easier to change business rules.
Version 6 is based on Microsoft's .Net applications platform but can interoperate with Java applications, according to Hanold.
Pricing for the product starts at $25,000 per CPU. Applications run on Windows platforms.
