Where to Look for Security Jobs
Computerworld -
Although hiring is flat everywhere, some services firms and government agencies are hiring. For example, the FBI announced in April that it's looking for 900 new field agents, particularly ones with backgrounds in IT. Other places to look for information security work include the following:
- Incident response and forensics consulting firms such as Seattle-based Electronic Evidence Discovery Inc., where pay ranges from $45,000 to $125,000, depending on the level of experience.
- Monitoring services companies such as Vigilinx Inc., SecurityFocus and Counterpane Internet Security Inc., which pays $55,000 to $95,000 for IT security workers, depending on their skills. Although Cupertino, Calif.-based Counterpane isn't hiring now, it's in negotiations with several new customers and expects to hire in the next six months or so.
- General IT security job postings such as at the Web site of New York-based Dice Inc. A search against the term information security turned up 1,300 entries for information security analysts, engineers, technicians, .Net specialists and security directors. Many postings are from recruiting firms, but some are from financial services and dot-com companies.
- Consulting firms. Search Menlo Park, Calif.-based RHI Consulting's Web site for security.
- Government job sites such as UsaJobs.com.
