GM: No plans to get into application hosting

Computerworld - General Motors Corp. yesterday denied reports that it plans to jump into the business of hosting applications for other companies.
John Ahearne, a spokesman at the Detroit-based automaker, said GM will continue using Web-based applications to streamline its internal operations. The company is also expected to continue an established strategy of investing in technology vendors and emerging Internet businesses, such as the Covisint LLC online exchange it created last year with rivals Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler AG.
But Ahearne said GM doesn't have any plans to offer the applications it uses internally -- such as its custom-built online financing and procurement software -- to other companies through an application service provider business unit.
