Intel boosts support for Apple developers
IDG News Service -
Intel Corp. Thursday announced a set of software development tools and resources designed to help developers of software for Apple Computer Inc.'s Mac OS take advantage of its new dual-core processors, called Core Duo.
The announcement came days after Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, announced the first Apple computers based on Intel chips instead of the PowerPC processors used in other computer models sold by the company.
To help smooth the transition to an Intel-based computer architecture, the company has released free beta versions of its Intel Fortran Compiler, Intel C++ Compiler, Intel Math Kernel Library and Intel Integrated Performance Primitives for Apple developers. In addition, Intel has made available online resources to assist developers with dual-core threading and migration issues.
The development tools released by Intel work with Apple's Xcode development environment, the company said. The tools will be available for purchase during the second quarter, it said. Pricing wasn't announced.
