Computerworld - Novell Inc. on Tuesday named Jeffrey Jaffe, a veteran of IBM and Lucent Technologies Inc., executive vice president and chief technology officer.
Jaffe, 51, was most recently president of Bell Labs Research and Advanced Technologies at Lucent. He fills a post left vacant since March when Novell's former CTO, Alan Nugent, left to join Computer Associates International Inc. as head of that company's Unicenter software business.
Before his stint at Lucent, Jaffe worked at IBM, where he held a number of technical and management positions, including corporate vice president of technology and general manager of IBM's SecureWay business unit. In that role, Jaffe oversaw IBM's security, directory and networking software business.
Jaffe, who will report to Ron Hovsepian, Novell's president and chief operating officer, has a Ph.D. in computer science from MIT.
