Brief: Maureen Govern named CTO at AOL

Computerworld - Former Convergys Corp. Chief Technology Officer Maureen Govern has been tapped to be the new CTO at America Online Inc., according to a statement released by AOL.
Govern succeeds John McKinley, who now runs AOL's Digital Services business, and will report to AOL Chairman and CEO Jon Miller. As CTO, Govern will help align the company's technical strategy with its overall business goals, AOL said.
Govern will manage the AOL network, including its infrastructure and data center operations, as well as oversee the company's business technology functions, supervise AOL's internal computing services and direct the company's shared technology development organization.
"Maureen is a respected leader with an outstanding track record for managing technology services for large companies like AOL," said Miller. "As CTO, she will help us realign our technology resources to support the needs of our multiple businesses. She has the critical combination of wireline and wireless, service provider and manufacturer, network and back-office experience to help us build and transition our infrastructure to meet the demands of the changing marketplace."
As CTO at Convergys, Govern was responsible for technology leadership and identifying disruptive technologies for the company's Customer and Information Management Groups.
Govern, who holds a master's of science degree in operations research from Stanford University, began her career as a member of the technical staff at Bell Laboratories in 1978.
