Vodafone offers roaming data service in U.S.
IDG News Service -
Enterprise customers of Vodafone Group PLC, Europe's largest mobile phone operator, will be able to send and receive data on the high-speed network of Verizon Wireless under a new roaming service announced Thursday.
Vodafone is offering business users a package that contains the Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G/GPRS data card, which is designed for the operator's own third-generation (3G) and General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) networks, and the new Vodafone Mobile Connect EVDO data card, to be used on its U.S. partner's Evolution-Data Optimized (EVDO) network.
The package will be initially available in Germany, the Netherlands and the U.K., with the other Vodafone markets to follow next year, the company said.
The two-card package costs 120 ($147) in the U.K. Customers pay a flat fee of 50 per month for 100MB of data, according to a Vodafone spokesman.
The cards, which will provide speeds up to 384Kbit/sec., are available to enterprise customers through Vodafone's direct sales force.
