Brief: Q2 e-commerce sales up 26% from last year
But they still represent a small fraction of all retail sales
August 22, 2005 12:00 PM ETComputerworld -
Online retail sales in the second quarter of this year were $21.1 billion, up 26% from the $16.8 billion posted in the same quarter a year ago, according a statement from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Total retail sales for the second quarter of the year were $940.8 billion, up 8.4% from $867.9 billion in the second quarter of 2004. Those figures are adjusted for seasonal variation and for holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, the Census Bureau said.
On a nonadjusted basis, the Census Bureau estimated online retail sales for the second quarter at $19.8 billion, up 25.7% from $15.8 billion in the second quarter of 2004. Total retail sales for the second quarter of 2005 on a nonadjusted basis were $952.3 billion, an increase of 8.1% from $881 billion in the same period a year ago, according to the Census Bureau.
Online travel services, financial brokers and dealers, and ticket sales agencies are not classified as retail, the Census Bureau said, and are not included in either the total retail or e-commerce sales estimates.
