Novell to buy asset management company

Acquisition of Tally Systems would boost its ZENworks product line

March 23, 2005 12:00 PM ET

IDG News Service - Novell Inc. said today that it has agreed to acquire IT asset management company Tally Systems Corp. for an undisclosed sum in order to expand its ZENworks product line.
Lebanon, N.H.-based Tally Systems offers tools for discovery and inventory, license management and analysis of software usage and trends. Novell wants to use its technologies to bolster its ZENworks system management offerings to give customers a greater ability to track systems and information across the enterprise, Novell said.
Tally Systems said its products are licensed on more than 10 million PCs and 15,000 Web sites. It offers products with capabilities such as patch management, application self-healing and software deployment.
The transaction is due to close in April, Novell said.
