Bomb hoax hits Bangalore outsourcing company
IDG News Service -
BANGALORE, India -- Police evacuated an office of Wipro Ltd., one of the country's leading software development and services outsourcers, today after the office in the heart of the city received a telephone call warning about a bomb on the premises.
The bomb hoax comes less than a week after police in Delhi warned of terrorist attacks on Bangalore's software companies. The police said that they found evidence of plans for such attacks in documents found on three suspected terrorists they killed in an encounter (See story).
Bomb hoaxes are common in India, and the target of the pranksters range from software companies to airports and government offices. Officials at Wipro have declined to comment on the hoax.
The evacuated Wipro office is a small and run primarily for administrative purposes. Customer-related work was not disrupted, according to informed sources. Wipro has a number of facilities, as well as its corporate headquarters in Bangalore. The company has previously said it has business continuity and data recovery systems in place to cope with mishaps.
