Oracle patches flaw, Asustek to take on iPad
This week brought a mix of IT news. Oracle was forced to issue an emergency patch for buggy software after details of the flaw became public. Yahoo continued to shed excess business units and sold its HotJobs division. Nexus One users finally have some multitouch functions after Google issued an update for the smartphone. Also, check out an interview with Eugene Kaspersky of security company Kaspersky Lab, and a package on business intelligence if your company is looking to delve deeper into data analysis.

Magic Box Browser Just Boxes You In
Whether you realize it or not, it's likely that you're constantly using Web apps as you surf the Web. Sites such as Facebook are meant to be left open, and it makes sense to separate them from more traditional pages. Magic Box (free) offers one way to do so, as a standalone browser which can open up any of 15 Web apps (including Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Gmail, Hulu, and LinkedIn) in different tabs. However, the lack of features makes it less useful than a simple bookmark folder in a more full-featured browser.

While it seemed that all eyes were on Apple's unveiling of the long-awaited iPad this week, Oracle on the same day revealed its plans for Sun Microsystems' technology, while those at Sun braced for the merger and began their public goodbyes.
