New GoldenGate tool finds database discrepancies

Veridata can help companies comply with regulatory requirements

August 29, 2005 (IDG News Service) -- GoldenGate Software Inc. has released a tool that can root out data discrepancies between databases without interrupting their use, the company announced today.
Called Veridata, the software aims to help reduce the time it takes to compare large volumes of data across database applications. It can also help companies stay in compliance with regulatory requirements and keep backup databases up to date, according to the San Francisco-based company.
The product can compare data sets in "live" databases at very high speed, which GoldenGate claimed is unique. It has applied for a patent covering the technology.
Version 1 of the tool can compare one target and one source database. It currently works with Oracle Corp. databases and Hewlett-Packard Co.'s NonStop databases, although GoldenGate said it plans to support additional platforms soon. Pricing information wasn't immediately available.
Users select pertinent tables or data fields in the target and source databases and then run the tool. While information in the databases continues to be updated, the tool spots persistent discrepancies and reports them.
New regulations such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Basel II and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act make executives more accountable for their data. Cutting down on discrepancies between databases helps ensure that company information is accurate, GoldenGate said.
