Bezels are so 2015.
Which is why Xiaomi, which held a launch event in Beijing Tuesday to introduced its flagship phone, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, also announced the Mi Mix, a near bezel-less concept phone. Except it is not only a concept. So what are the details of the Mi Mix?
In IT Blogwatch, we go bezel-free.
So what is the big deal with this device? Abhimanyu Ghoshal gives us the background:
Xiaomi kicked off its...event in Beijing...rather predictably with the handsome...Mi Note 2 -- but it followed up with a cracker of a device...The Mi Mix is perhaps the most beautiful smartphone ever...Developed in partnership with Philippe Starck...it features a sleek 6.4-inch body made entirely of ceramic and free of bezels on three sides.
That makes for a screen-to-body ratio of 91.3 percent, which is insane...The iPhone 7 Plus comes in at 67.7 percent, while the Google Pixel XL manages 71.2 percent.
That's a lot of screen space. So what are the specs? Kristijan Lucic fills us in:
The vast majority of the phone’s front is covered by...a 6.4-inch 2040 x 1080 display. This smartphone comes with 4GB/6GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB/256GB of UFS 2.0 internal storage. This device is fueled by the Snapdragon 821 64-bit quad-core processor running at 2.35GHz, along with the Adreno 530 GPU...There are two SIM card slots available...both are nano SIM slots. The 16-megapixel snapper (PDAF, f/2.0 aperture) is placed on the back of the Xiaomi Mi Mix, and next to it, you’ll notice the dual-LED, dual tone flash. This camera allows you to shoot 4K video...The company has included a 5-megapixel shooter on the front side of this phone, and a 3.5mm headphone jack...as well...The fingerprint scanner is placed below Mi Mix's rear-facing camera, and the phone ships with a 4,400mAh battery which can be charged quickly using Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes pre-installed on the Mi Mix, along with Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 OS. The device measures 158.8 x 81.9 x 7.9mm, while it weighs 209 grams.
Well, that certainly covers it. Anything else noteworthy? Abhinav Lal has something to add:
The highlight of the Xiaomi Mi Mix is its near bezel-less display with curved edges on top...Another highlight is the piezoelectric acoustic ceramic earpiece speaker, as well as the ultrasonic proximity sensor rather than the traditional front-facing infrared sensor. The company is also touting a front camera module that’s 50 percent smaller than conventional sensors, and is placed at the bottom right corner of the phone.
So when will the Mi Mix be available? And what will it cost? CNET has the scoop:
Xiaomi has a new concept phone -- but it's...actually...real. And it's crazy.
The...Mix...will be available in China on November 4 and will come in two models. One, housing 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage, will retail for 3499 yuan ($510)...while a premium model with 18k gold embossing and 256GB onboard storage will cost 3,999 yuan ($590).
What do you think? Excited? Voolar certainly is, with only this to say:
Shut up and take my money...
