Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge details revealed in a few new rumors. The new Sammy flagships get some features that users have been crying out for, but with an odd camera choice.
They’re expected to be launched next month and get a release date in March. In IT Blogwatch, bloggers debate the whys and wherefores.
Your humble blogwatcher curated these bloggy bits for your entertainment.
Time for another breathless “exclusive”? Evan Blass sources a saucy rumor from a single source—Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will feature microSD, water resistance, and larger batteries:
According to a person briefed on the company’s plans...the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will offer microSD slots...and water-resistance.
The flat S7 variant will retain [a] 5.1-inch display size. ... The S7 edge was said to [be] 5.5 inches. ... Resolution will supposedly remain...at 1440 x 2560.
While neither handset will bring back...replace[able] batteries, both models are receiving a capacity bump: to 3000mAh and 3600mAh. ... 4GB of RAM. ... Two storage options: 32GB or 64GB.
Samsung will allegedly unveil the handsets prior to the 2016 Mobile World Congress in...February.
Over on Reddit, we see a blurry snap of a hardware manifest. It’s courtesy of /u/mobileleaks:
Full metal body. ... sd card. ... 4GB RAM. 12MP Back camera. ... two pressure sensors. ... Fingerprint reader.
Marshmallow is pretty smooth and...fast. lets wait and see if Samsung spoils it.
Wow, so a triangulation of the SD-card rumor? Here’s a happy husky:
My next...if SD is true. Good on you for listening to loyal users, Samsung.
If bloatware was removed...this would be a gem.
But wait... Did he say TWELVE megapixels? Surely that’s a downgrade from the S6 series? Brad Reed warbles—Rumored Galaxy S7 edge specs revealed in new leak:
The original S6 edge had a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera. [But] megapixel counts don’t necessarily make a camera great and Samsung has shown that it makes absolutely fantastic smartphone cameras that take beautiful pictures.
These specs are still rumors, of course, so we wouldn’t put too much stock into them until more sources confirm them.
OK, but it sounds like a marketing nightmare. Cam Bunton spices it up—Galaxy S7 front panel and specs allegedly leak, corroborate earlier rumors:
Dubious [but] not completely impossible. Samsung did recently unveil its new BRITECELL camera sensors, and it has been rumored...that Sammy is working on a small 12MP sensor using this new technology.
It certainly paints a puzzling picture of Samsung’s marketing strategy.
But there’s one aspect of the camera rumors that pleases Jin Kim. Here’s Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge:
The camera hump will be gone, if true an excellent design decision.
I’m looking at you Apple.
