Yeah, that would explain it

Pilot fish gets a call from a user, who complains that the digital recorder issued by IT won't recharge any longer.

"It syncs with the workstation just fine, but the charge indicator won't light up," says fish.

"So I check the cable. Yep, plugged in.

"I try the recorder in a different charger on another workstation that functions correctly. Hmm -- the recorder still doesn't indicate that it's charging, but the workstation can see it.

"I think a moment. I open up the battery compartment. The rechargeable pack that was installed has been replaced with alkaline batteries.

"That explains why it won't recharge -- and, of course, no one at that location knows what happened to the rechargeable batteries..."
