As a group, Millennial workers switch jobs more often than any other generation, giving them a reputation as job-hoppers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average tenure for employees ages 20 to 24 is just 16 months. For those 25 to 34, it’s three years -- still 2 to 8 years shorter than the remainder of the workforce.

That can be both good news and bad news for IT departments, says John Reed, senior executive director at IT staffing company Robert Half Technology (RHT).

“Millennials are riskier to hire because we’ve seen that they typically do move around more than other generations,” he says. “But if you hire correctly, these workers can be beneficial because they’re more well-rounded -- they’ve been at big and small companies and worked in various industries and environments.”
