IT services provider Accenture Ltd. will deploy a revamped information system for heavy equipment manufacturer Caterpillar Inc. and provide related support and services, the companies announced Tuesday.
The enhanced system will be used by dealers that sell, rent and support Caterpillar heavy equipment and engines. It was designed by Caterpillar and built jointly with Accenture. Accenture will also deploy and provide increased support for the system, including regional help desks that can offer support in multiple languages. The help desks will also operate for longer periods of time during the day.
Enhancements to the system include new customer relationship management capabilities, such as tracking customer data and anticipating customer service needs.
Hamilton, Bermuda-based Accenture and Peoria, Ill.-based Caterpillar didn't provide financial details of this multiyear project.
Caterpillar has been an Accenture customer for 15 years.
Caterpillar had revenue in fiscal 2001 of $20.45 billion. The company makes construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, and industrial gas turbines. Its products are used by companies in the construction, transportation, mining, forestry, energy, logistics, financing and electric power industries.
