Tim keeps mum. He's not so dumb.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is said to be preparing a 9/9 launch for its next smartphone -- and the new phablet. The rumor and its confirmation came from three credible organs. But it's earlier than expected -- so does that mean the iPhone 6 release date will also be earlier?

How will we contain our excitement for over a month? OMG OMG OMG new shiny incoming... etc., etc., etc.

In IT Blogwatch, bloggers froth themselves into a foamy lather.

Your humble blogwatcher curated these bloggy bits for your entertainment.

John Paczkowski pokes fun at bloggers and traffic-chasing journalists:

New iPhones to Suck All the Air Out of the Tech News Cycle.

Apple has scheduled a big media event for Tuesday, Sept. 9 — a date to which Apple numerologists will strain to attribute significance. ... The focal point of this one is to be Apple’s next-generation iPhones, which are expected to feature larger displays. ... Apple declined comment.

To confirm John's suggestion, Adam Satariano speaks to this shady character:

Apple Inc. is preparing to introduce bigger-screen iPhones at an event on Sept. 9, a person familiar with the plans said.

Anticipation for bigger-screen iPhones has analysts predicting that Apple will sell a record number of handsets. ... Apple’s planned event on the second Tuesday in September is in keeping with a strategy of releasing new iPhone models...in time for the holiday shopping season.

And Yoni Heisler approves this message:

Mark your calendars, folks...the September 9 date was subsequently confirmed by both Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal.

For years now, the one major advantage Android handsets have had over the iPhone was a larger display. With the impending release of the iPhone 6...Samsung, which is already struggling as of late, should have a lot to worry about.

Accordingly, Jonny "Rocket" Evans goes into full-on PANIC mode:

A hubbub of expectation has already begun.

The event...will also likely mark the introduction of iOS 8. The new smartphones will be powered by a...faster A8 processor and should be available in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch sizes. ... Apple has asked manufacturers to produce 70-80 million iPhone units by December 30.

Executives from the firm have repeatedly promised one of the best product pipelines it has ever offered. ... Rumor claims sapphire displays and an extension in the use of Touch ID. Apple's focus on HealthKit makes it possible the company will introduce its feature-packed iWatch.

Meanwhile, Gordon Kelly checks the back of the couch:

Dig into your savings, crack open the piggy bank, list those last few items on eBay.

“Apple declined to comment.” ... Much will be read into this final sentence. Silence often seen as an admission of fact, but Apple tends to give the cold shoulder to most journalist requests on any topic not to its liking.

September 9 is...a date Apple has used twice in the past. Firstly in 2008 to unveil new iPods and secondly in 2009...which produced more iPods and iTunes 9. Until now it has been iPhone-free, but...Apple may like this period for the run-up it allows to the Christmas period.
