It's just a few years ago, and this pilot fish works for a big Silicon Valley software company that sells its wares around the world.

"I was traveling through Southeast Asia," says fish. "My VPN connections back to the head office in Silicon Valley were understandably slow.

"I emailed the help desk asking for VPN connection points in Asia. They responded that the only connection point in Asia was in India, and provided the details for the connection.

"Knowing we had large offices in China and Japan, I found this odd, and replied back asking for connection points specifically in China or Japan.

"To which they replied with the connection details for the VPN access points in China and Japan. Apparently the help desk staff has a different understanding of Asia..."
