A happy scam story

It's old news that scammers call people, say they are from Windows or Microsoft and offer to remove a virus for a fee. This being Computerworld, readers have probably dealt with this scam for friends, family and/or clients.

Someone I know, an extreme non-techie, fell for the scam back in November, a couple weeks before her ancient Windows XP laptop died.

We discussed the options for a new computing device: Windows, Mac, iPad, Android tablet and Chromebook. She bought a Chromebook and has been very happy with it. Interestingly, the fast startup time has changed the way she uses her computer.

A couple days ago she got another phone call about removing a virus from her Windows computer.

When she told me this, it made my day :-)

Take that, bad guys.
