Microsoft is furiously "responding to customer feedback," says Reller
Microsoft Windows Blue (thought to be release 8.1) has an official date (sort of). In a carefully-staged offhand comment, Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) CMO and CFO of Windows, Tami Reller (pictured), officially leaked that it'll be out "later this year."

Gates...tout[ed] Windows 8 as the solution, because it bridges the world of PCs and tablets. ...he took a swipe at the market-leading iPad, and said that Windows 8 tablets will succeed because...they are built to use Office, and include keyboards.
...The company wants to use Office as a way to get people to buy Windows 8 and...RT tablets. ... So don't be surprised if there's no version of Office for iOS and Android [anytime soon]. MORE
Anyway. Is 100 million a lot? Harry McCracken adds context:
[I] rummage[d] around...for past sales data for...Windows dating back to version 1.0, which debuted in November 1985. ... What’s fascinating is the overall trend and what it says about the number of PC users.
...[For example] Windows 3.0 sold four million copies in its first year. ...one of the industry’s biggest smashes until that time. Today, Windows 8 is selling 50 times as fast. ...an encouraging sign or evidence that it’s a disappointment?
