With #TweetsFromHillary, Clinton jumps on Twitter

Get out your pantsuit and freshen up your hair. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has joined the Twitterverse.

Clinton sent her first tweet just this morning on a verified Twitter account. The former secretary of state and former first lady had already established the account but had kept it private and restricted it to a limited number of followers… until today.

This new personal account also is separate from the one she used while serving as secretary of state.

In a great first tweet and in a shout out to the “Texts from Hillary” creators, Clinton’s first tweet was, “Thanks for the inspiration @ASmith83 & @Sllambe - I'll take it from here... #tweetsfromhillary.”

Clinton has created a lot of online buzz with her Twitter bio. After saying she’s a wife, mom, lawyer, U.S. Senator, SecState, she adds that she’s a “hair icon, pantsuit aficionado and glass ceiling cracker.”

Clever.

And in another funny move, for her profile picture Clinton used the much-buzzed-about picture of her wearing sunglasses and checking her phone. Yep, it’s the same image that comedians Adam Smith and Stacy Lambe, creators of “Texts from Hillary,” used.

And Clinton is off to a big start.

With just one personal tweet under her belt, she already has about 155,000 followers.

On her opening day, she was only following four people, including her husband, former U.S. President Bill Clinton, and her daughter, Chelsea.

Clinton, who is rumored to be considering a run for president in 2016, is getting a lot of attention – on Twitter, as well as in the mainstream press, with her appearance on the micro-blogging site.

Talk show host Katie Couric tweeted this afternoon, “Looking fwd to more #tweetfromhillary @hillaryclinton! Love the bio…makes me think I need to be more creative! Thoughts?”

And Clinton’s husband tweeted, “Does @Twitter have a family share plan? Great to be here with @HillaryClinton & @ChelseaClinton. Looking forward to #tweetsfromhillary.”
