Verizon Galaxy Nexus Release Date

Sound the gong, Android fans: After weeks of silence and approximately 4,792 wrong rumors, we finally know the real release date for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus

Verizon Wireless has just announced its Galaxy Nexus phone will go on sale tomorrow, December 15. It'll cost $299.99 with a new two-year contract, according to the carrier. The phone will be available online and at Verizon Wireless and Best Buy stores.

(Update: According to new information posted by Verizon's official Twitter account, sales will begin (presumably online) at 1 a.m. ET. Samsung and Google have both now posted their own announcements of the news, too, on Facebook and Google+, respectively.)

The Galaxy Nexus, as you surely know by now, is Google's flagship Ice Cream Sandwich device and the first phone to run the new Android 4.0 platform. It's a real peach, too; in my review of the phone late last month, I described it as the Android phone to beat, noting:

I test a lot of Android phones, and I'm not exaggerating when I say the Galaxy Nexus delivers the fastest and most reliable performance I've encountered. The phone's processing power deserves some of the credit, but I suspect a good portion also belongs to the improvements made in Ice Cream Sandwich and the tight-knit hardware-software integration that comes along with Google's involvement on the development level. That's always been a benefit of the Nexus line of devices, and the Galaxy Nexus is no exception.

So yes, suffice it to say, this device comes with a high recommendation and plenty of anticipation. Mark your calendars now: Tomorrow is the day.
