Not really a retirement gift, but it felt that way

This IT manager pilot fish is heading for retirement, but there's one big project that's still on his to-do list.

"The project was to get fiber to about seven buildings spread across a 40-acre manufacturing campus," says fish. "We were getting ready to roll out SAP in phases, and it required more bandwidth than the obsolete RF bridges we were using.

"We submitted proposal after proposal to the local Big Boss. As always, he says no no NO to everything.

"Then the really bigger boss from corporate HQ came out. He walked the site with us, looked at our plans and said, 'Make it happen.'

"Finally, I could retire with a smile on my face!"
